Choose a first Sunday
Look up the current Mass schedule on a nearby parish website. Check the location as well as the time; a parish can serve more than one church. Arrive a little early so you can find a seat and settle without rushing.
You do not need to remember every response before walking through the door. A worship aid may help, and it is fine to listen while you become familiar with the words again. If it would help, invite a trusted friend to come with you.
Know the broad shape
In the Roman Rite, Mass includes introductory rites, the Liturgy of the Word, the Liturgy of the Eucharist and concluding rites. You will hear Scripture, pray with the congregation and participate in the Church’s worship. Some responses and customs may feel different from what you remember.
Follow along as you are able. If standing or kneeling is difficult, remain seated as needed. Ask an usher about accessible seating, hearing support or other practical needs.
Speak with a priest about the sacraments
If you have been away, arrange a conversation with a priest about returning to the practice of the faith, Confession and preparation to receive Holy Communion. Personal circumstances can call for individual guidance. Attending Mass and receiving Communion are related but distinct; you may attend while you work through those questions.
You can remain in your place and pray during Communion. You do not have to explain your situation to the people around you.
Take one step after Mass
Rather than trying to resolve everything immediately, choose a next conversation. Ask the parish office about meeting a priest, joining a small group or completing sacraments you have not yet received.
Give yourself time to become part of a parish again. Returning can bring relief, uncertainty or a mixture of feelings. A simple beginning is still a beginning.

Choose a parish and verify its Mass time. If needed, ask for an appointment with a priest.
