· 2 John 4–9
Truth and love belong together. Truth without love can become a weapon; love without truth can avoid what needs honest attention. Before a difficult conversation, ask what is accurate, what the other person needs to understand and what dignity requires. You may need to set a boundary or correct a mistake. Speak plainly, but leave room for listening and for the possibility that you still have something to learn.
A question to sit with
Where do I need both honesty and gentleness?
One small step
Prepare one truthful sentence, then ask one sincere question and listen to the answer.
Pray
God of truth and love, guide my words so they are honest, humble and directed toward another person’s good. Amen.
