Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk or a suitable milk alternative
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or neutral oil
- 2 medium apples, cored and diced
Make it together
- Heat the oven to 375°F / 190°C. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
- Mix oats, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a bowl. In a second bowl, whisk milk, egg, maple syrup and melted butter or oil.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures, then fold in the apples. Pour into the dish.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until the centre is set and the top is lightly golden. For an egg dish, check the centre reaches 160°F / 71°C. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
A useful swap
For a milk-free version, use a suitable milk alternative and oil. This recipe still contains egg. Choose certified gluten-free oats if required.
